How to Connect USB Game Controllers on Windows 8 PC

Here is the simple procedure to set up an Xbox, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 controller on Windows 8.

How to set up PlayStation 3 controller on Windows

1.    Download and install the drivers of Xbox 360 controller (Windows 7) from Microsoft: On both Windows 7 and Windows 8 computer, you can use the same Windows 7 drivers. Visit Microsoft’s website for drivers and download for your bit (32-bit or 64-bit) version.

2.    Connect your PS3 controller to your PC with USB: If you’re connecting it for the first time, Windows will install some drivers automatically. You can also use a Bluetooth dongle if you want to use the controller wirelessly.

3.    Download Xinput Wrapper drivers:  Visit “PCSX2 forum thread” page and download the latest version of the drivers (7z archive).

4.    Download and install 7-Zip: You need to download the 7-Zip program to extract the drivers file you’ve downloaded. Download the program from “7-zip.org” and install it.

5.    Extract the 7z file with 7-Zip: Right click on the 7z file and select 7-Zip. A new folder will create with the extracted Xinput Wrapper files.

6.    Go to ‘ScpServer’ folder and open ‘bin’ folder.

7.    Find the ‘ScpDriver.exe’ file in the folder and install it.

8.    Now, restart your PC and run “ScpDriver.exe.”

That’s it! Now, your PS3 controller will work as an Xbox 360 controller. The games that support the Xbox controller will recognize your PS3 controller as an Xbox controller, and you can play games with it. Make sure the controller you’re using is selected in the games settings.

How to set up PlayStation 4 controller on Windows

1.    Visit ‘ds4windows.com’ and download the DS4 Windows.

2.    Open the Zip file, here you’ll see ‘DS4Windows’ and ‘DS4Updater’ program.

3.    Extract the programs.

4.    Run the ‘DS4Windows’ program.

5.    Select a location to save your profile.

6.    Click ‘Install the DS4 Driver’ option.

7.    Connect your PS3 controller to your PC with USB.

8.    Go to profile tab to set up your profile, as you want.

 That’s it! Now, your PS4 controller will work as an Xbox 360 controller. The games that support the Xbox controller will recognize your PS4 controller as an Xbox controller, and you can play games with it. Make sure the controller you’re using is selected in the games settings.

How to setup and use an Xbox 360 controller on Windows

1.    Download the drivers of the Xbox 360 controller (Windows 7): On both Windows 7 and Windows 8 computer, you can use the same Windows 7 drivers. Visit Microsoft’s website for drivers and download for your bit (32-bit or 64-bit) version.

2.    Set up compatibility for Windows 7: Right click on the program > select ‘Properties’ > open ‘Compatibility’ tab > select ‘Run program in compatibility mode for’ > pick ‘Windows 7’ from dropdown box > Click ‘Apply’ > click ‘OK’.

3.    Install the downloaded controller drivers: Run the downloaded file and install the controller software. Reboot your PC when prompt.

4.    Connect your PS3 controller to your PC with USB: If you’re connecting it for the first time, Windows will install some drivers automatically.

5.    Test your controller: Search for ‘joy.cpl’ > Open ‘Properties’ of your Xbox 360 controller > press the keys on the controller and check the corresponding lights on the desktop.
